Plan and Prepare For Your Move
At Exodus we understand that moving can be stressful so here are a few tips to help you plan and be prepared for your moving day.
- Provide alternate/multiple contact numbers to your movers so you can be reached at any point during your move.
- Keep all important documents in your possession (birth certificates, financial documents and small expensive items such as jewelry, currency, etc.) Also avoid packing things you think you may need quick access to.
- Have a floor plan made of your new location so there is no down time trying to decide where your items belong when the movers arrive at the final destination.
- Please disconnect all major appliances, especially those with a water or gas line. For their protection all stereos, TVs, computers, and other electronic devices should be unplugged 24 hours before the move.
- Disassembling furniture, such as beds, hutches, pool tables, desks, etc., will save you money. Also, if possible, remove mirrors from dressers and glass or marble tops from cabinets and tables.
- If you are packing on your own have all boxes fully packed and taped shut before the movers arrive. Try not to over or under pack boxes so they can be appropriately stacked.
- Please write on the side of each box what is inside and if it fragile.
- Do not pack any flammable, explosive, corrosive or liquid items. We are required by law not to move these items. This also includes pressurized containers, (aerosol cans, propane tanks etc) as well as firearms and ammunition.
- FYI- If you have requested professional packing services (dish packs, picture/mirror boxes etc.) please know that this is an additional service which you will be charged by the box.
- Have all pictures and shelves removed from the walls and appropriately protected, or prepared to be packed by the movers.
- Cleaning out trash cans and filling them with miscellaneous garden tools can minimize your packing efforts.
- Stack boxes on the main floor about four feet high to make it easy for the movers to roll them out to the moving truck.
