Moving boxes seem to be everywhere. In your storage closet, all around stores and retailers, they just seem to be accessible in all places. However before you move, when you are planning to get your things packed and ready to go, you can’t seem to find a box to save your life. What is this phenomenon all about? And the better question is: where do you find the boxes once you realize that you need them?
Below are a few ideas on where you can find moving boxes, along with some insights into them.
Store Boxes
Check your local grocery store, liquor store or even department store for boxes. Most companies will just leave their boxes outside for people like you, desperate for moving materials. So make sure to coordinate or call with an owner or manager of a store to make sure that you are coming at the right time. You don’t want to make a scene ripping the boxes out of other people’s hands. This is one of the most cost effective ways to find moving boxes.
Online Retailers
Most people believe that because there are moving boxes out in the world that have already been used and are sitting in some pile, which they shouldn’t be paying for a set of boxes. Well the response to that is that you are correct and not correct. If you buy new boxes, you are guaranteed to have the sturdiest box that a new box could have. However if you buy a slew of new boxes not only is this not cost effective but is also not environmentally friendly. Either way you choose there are pros and cons. And that brings us to our next category.
Used Moving Boxes
There is always the Craigslist ad for 100 free moving boxes for free, or for a couple of dollars. In fact this is an excellent way to get RID of the boxes that you are not using after your move and are settled into your home. It is also a way to get a slew of boxes all together and also a great way to save money. Once you go and pick them up make sure that you sort through the bad boxes that look like they are going to rip and tear. It would be such a sad sight to see your personal belongings shattering on the ground. Make sure also that once you get home; build your boxes with strong moving tape to keep them reinforced.

Moving, at the best of times, is difficult. So, when you add the extra emotional stress of a major life change, such as a divorce, death or economic crisis, a move can be a breaking point. Here are some tips to making your shift easier and less stressful.
Try Not to Make Rash Decisions
Before you throw out everything attached to a bad memory, step back and consider if it’s something you really can’t live with. If you can’t – you really can’t – get rid of it. Don’t make decisions out of spite. Usually, those decisions end up being regretted.
Ask for Help
Our pride can be such a hindrance sometimes, making us feel like we should be able to handle the situation on our own. Moving is one of the hardest things you’ll ever do – moving into a new life, is even tougher. So, if you need some tasks done, or you need help packing or sorting things (like the neighbor who kindly sorted my mother’s clothes) or you need a babysitter, ask your friends, family and neighbors.
Be Good to Yourself
Starting a new life is emotionally and physically draining. Be good to yourself during this time. If you’re tired, sleep; if you’re wanting time alone, give it to yourself. Go get your hair styled or get a massage or take some time to watch a movie or two, even if you feel like there’s so much to do. By giving yourself what you need, you’re allowing yourself to heal.

Many of us over think the moving process and what and how to pack for a move. Something to consider is that you will not always be able to take along boxes if they are filled with prohibited items. To prevent making your move stressful and complicated, stay away from packing the following items:
Dangerous Items
Fertilizer
Paints
Car Batteries
Matches
Nail Polish & Remover
Batteries
Loaded Weapons
Weed Killer
Ammonia
Lamp Oil
Propane
Ammunition
Liquid Bleach
Aerosols
Kerosene
Pool Chemicals
Chemistry Sets
Fireworks
Motor Oil
Paint Thinner
Cleaning Fluid
Acid
Darkroom Chemicals
Pesticides
Motor Oil
Gasoline
Charcoal
Lighter Fluid
The items above will need special equipment to handle, so make sure to talk to your moving company to assess how best to handle the moving of these items.
Perishable Items
Make sure to check with your moving company before packing perishable items whether or not they move them as many times this is not allowed.
Heat sensitive items
These items are often overlooked but are very important to remember! Candles, CD’s, computers and electronics are all things that should be considered before throwing in a box.
Items with high value
This is pretty obvious, but you should always consider the items that are most expensive and keep them with or close to you to prevent any loss or theft. Also, high value can mean high in sentimental value in addition to monetary value.

Moving may not always be emotionally painful, but may cause unforeseen physical damage unexpectedly. There are simple ways to avoid causing injury to yourself and if you are smart to others…as you will pass this on as an act of good faith towards humankind
The first and most important factor of your move is your rented equipment. Renting proper equipment not only insures simpler more for heavier, larger items but more importantly saves your from back strain and further injury. Straps are also essential in securing boxes and items that are larger and hard to move on your own.
On that same note packing your boxes should be strategic as well. When packing for your move make sure that your boxes are no heavier than 50 pounds. This will not only help boxes from not squishing one another but again will prevent back strain in your move.
Also, check out the safety of the area that you are moving into. Inspecting your new area is a vital part of your move. It prevents you from finding things out like “oh, that walkway has a bunch of loose floorboards” or “oh, I just hang-lined myself on that tree branch on my way in”. Inspecting these things before you move your things physically in is key. Areas to inspect include: walkways, sidewalks, steps, trees, doors and any obstacle that you may encounter with a load of boxes in your hands.
Checking the place that you are moving into assures that you will arrive in one piece.

What you know from moving in the past or from reading this blog, is that moving can be daunting, and has a big need for organization. The minute that you decide that you are going to move, is the minute that you can begin the process. Below are a few key elements to remember and to implement in your moving process.
Talk talk talk. Talk to your moving company, talk to your family, talk to your friends, talk to your job (whether relocating or moving to a new job). Communication keeps relationships with people open flowing and healthy, use this element the same here. Treat your move like a relationship. When the people in your life know exactly what, where, when, who and why the process becomes free flowing and much easier to transition in and out of.
Talk to your new and old electric companies, your new and old landlords, make sure that everyone that you are financially obligated to has a full understanding of your payment plan, day of shut off or turn on, etc. You don’t want to be paying for utilities you are not using….or to not have them when you arrive from a long arduous trip.
Make a moving checklist that you hand out to all family members. This list will have individual tasks and overall goals and deadlines that the family will need to abide by. Organization is the key to a successful and stress free move. If you have young children you can have them begin sorting toys and books out at this stage, to help you pack them up when moving day approaches.
The key rule in packing? It’s never too early to start packing. Continue packing each day if you are moving yourself, or readying your house for the movers.
Having everyone that will be impacted by this move in full understanding of the agenda and timeline will not only save you stress, but save you money. Pack and organize early, to fully prepare yourself for the big day.

American economy may be at an all time low, and times are surely hard for most of us in America; perhaps it is time to start investing in yourself and what makes you happy. Maybe today, more than ever, is a day to consider a dare-to-be-great situation and start exploring new possibilities! Every great story begins with somebody doing something that seems uncomfortable, scary, and even potentially costly, but if you never step outside of your comfort zone you may never know what you’re worth.
How does 7,546 feet (that’s 1. 439 miles) above the ocean sound? Maybe glorious panoramic views of the glorious visual splendor that Colorado has to offer tickles your fancy. You can take advantage of Colorado’s own Rocky Mountain National Park, which was the 6th most visited National Park in 2009. Hiking, backpacking, fishing, camping, birdwatching, and so much more are waiting for anybody who is daring and caring enough to venture to Estes Park, CO.
For those of us already living in Colorado, why don’t we start using what CO have to offer? Take a risk, live the gamble, and dare to move closer to God’s majesty incarnate. Estes Park, CO has all the luxuries and wonder of any small town and so very much more. Estes Park has over 140 stores and shops that offer local goods as well as national products, and offers more than 120 restaurants. Estes even offers a great single scene, with 40% of it’s local population finding themselves without a life partner and nearly 20% of the population between 18 and 34.
Now is the time, and Estes Park is the place if you are considering relocating your life to a place where you can be a true Coloradoan. Why not move to a place where the most challenging day-to-day choices can be what you love most about the place you live?

Being a moving company, we are on the roads every single day and night making sure your belongings is getting to their final destination safely. The quality of the roads, bridges, etc., is obviously something that makes our jobs either really easy and smooth, or frustrating and challenging. We wanted to give our blog readers an overview of the TIGER grants being distributed to help fund road, rail and other infrastructure work.
The project has been dubbed the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery, or TIGER, plan. “TIGER grants will tackle the kind of major transportation projects that have been difficult to build under other funding programs,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. “This will help us meet the 21st century challenges of improving the environment, making our communities more livable and enhancing safety, all while creating jobs and growing the economy.”
The $1.5 billion fund should have a beneficial effect not just on worn-out bridges and highways, but on the job market, too. The economic recovery potential that this plan has is extremely exciting, but at Exodus, we are also thrilled to have hands on experience of the improvements across the country. Below is a chart of where the spending will occur:

Terminology Tuesday!
Depending on the move, the specifics and details can get confusing. That’s why we created Terminology Tuesdays where each week we will go over five moving terms that will help you have a better understanding of your moving process. Be sure to check out our archives, we’ll be doing this each week. Enjoy!
Carrier – the moving company providing interstate transportation of household goods under whose Department of Transportation registration the shipment is moved.
Diversion – when a customer changes the destination of their shipment after it is en route, transportation charges shall be calculated from the point of origin, to the point at which the carrier is able to effect the diversion, plus the transportation charge from the diversion point to the new destination point.
Order Number – used to identify the customer’s shipment and appears on the upper right corner of the Order for Service and the Bill of Lading. This number should be used whenever the carrier is contacted.
