How to Choose a Mover
In your search for a quality moving company, you will unfortunately have to sift through many movers who are unqualified, uncertified, and, worse, may put your belongings in danger of being damaged or stolen. In fact, there are even instances of movers holding a customer’s property hostage until large “hidden fees” are paid!
How can you avoid a moving horror story?
The resources on this page will help you know how to go about choosing a mover. In addition, there is a plethora of helpful information available via our Links section. We provide this information to you because we’re confident that when held up against stringent standards and examined with a fine-toothed comb, Exodus Moving & Storage stands out as one of the best Colorado moving companies for local, national, and international moves.

What to expect from a moving company:
It’s hard to assess the quality of a mover when there’s so much variation in what Colorado moving companies provide. But here’s a list of qualities that we strive for. When comparing us with other movers, be sure to ask about the following:
1. Detailed estimates. Exodus assigns a Move Coordinator to you, who reviews the estimate with you in detail and who remains your contact person throughout the moving process. Our estimate is at no cost to you—you should always receive a free estimate from your mover. Make sure the person who reviews your move asks you plenty of DETAILS regarding your move: a true, accurate estimate involves a complicated combination of factors.
2. Careful packing. There is such a thing as a professional packer! Our trained staff consists of people who can configure a carton with the best of them. They follow helpful guidelines for packing fragile, odd-shaped and precious items.
3. Valuation options. Although our damage ratio is extremely low, we highly recommend that our customers take out valuation on their items.
Valuation is similar to insurance, but because we don’t issue policies, we cannot strictly call it by that name. Exodus has three valuation options to suit your needs, versus most other Colorado moving companies who encourage you to choose from two extremes.
We emphasize that valuation charges are in addition to your moving costs, and we also make sure you understand exactly how you are covering your belongings. If you are interested in hearing about our valuation options, please contact the Exodus office staff.
4. Pick-up and delivery dates. For national moves, many van lines and moving companies in Colorado will give you a “window” of one to two weeks within which they may arrive to pick up or deliver your belongings. We often give you guaranteed dates on both ends, so you can accurately plan your move—and know exactly when you will be settling into your new home. When you’re moving, every day matters… otherwise, you and your family are in limbo!
5. Damage ratio. All movers should be able to tell you what their damage ratio is. It works like this: it’s a measure of the percentage of their income they’ve historically spent on damage claims. At Exodus, our damage ratio is less than a quarter of the industry average. We simply take better care of your belongings. Period. Compare moving companies using the charts below.
6. Staff turnover. Many Colorado
moving companies have a constantly changing staff, possibly reflecting
their employees’ dissatisfaction with working conditions and a cavalier
approach to management. This causes inconsistency in the services they
provide.
